How Much Is To Much?

by Michelle ~ March 16th, 2008. Filed under: Blog Surfing.

Good Morning Good Morning!! Its Sunday already. I am sitting here listening to Tator Tot sing and holler. He woke up in a good mood this morning. Its good to see him like this, it doesn’t often happen.

Anyway, I was doing some blog surfing this morning and came across this site that had like a ton of ads. See a couple of days ago I was thinking about adding some more Project Wonderful ads to my sight (a block of four ads versus the two). Now that I have removed Google Adsense I thought maybe a couple more ads wouldn’t be a bad idea. Up until I saw this one particular site.

I have decided not to post the link to the site, but took a screen shot and did a little doctoring the picture up. What do you think of the picture of this site I saw this morning? Is that to much advertising? Is it a blogger that is really dedicated or looking to making money from his blog? If you are ok with the number of ads, does the layout need to be different? I know its hard to tell from this small screen shot, but I am curious to know what you think.

I look forward to what your opinion is. For now I am going to close. I hope that you have a great morning!!

I think…you should not clog your blog with too much ads. There are plenty of tips around on how to place ads to improve traffic and of course earnings…

    nice blog! :D

You have to look at what YOU want to see on a blog. If it feels like it’s too much, it is too much.

I’m personally glad to see you got rid of adsence. All the big money making blogs are all about how to get better adsence revenues. (All of them posting the same old tired articles that were posted elsewhere.) While at the same time, they never answer the question, “How much do you make on AdSence?”

This answer is, Nothing. Super-Mega-Google-corp is not going to pay them a dime, 1) because they have no traffic, 2) because they post duplicate content (same exact word for word glowing review of AdSence), and 3) because google will claim that any money they did earn was because they gamed the system, accuse them of fraud, and withhold payments. (good system actually because 98% of them DO game the system with click frauds and page view frauds)

Project Wonderful adds are the way to go. No Game involved. Advertisers decide what they want to pay you (highest bid wins) and if you decide to run the ad, you get your money through PayPal the NEXT DAY instead of three months later (or Never).

Don’t overload your page with ads, keep posting quality original content, and you will do fine.

I think sometimes if the ads are arranged so that they fit into both the layout and the content, then viewing them is at least manageable to readers. Lately I’ve been trying to minimize the amount of ad I show, for the sake of my readers really.

I think that the layout is bad. Two banners and nine 125 X 125s surrounding a single post seems like a lot. Are the ads relevant to the content of the blog posts? Are the posts any good? If yes, then maybe the blog can carry those ads, if not then it’s a wast of time anyhow.

Ayel - You are right there are lots of articles about posting ads on blogs. I wonder if I should stop back by and send him a link to those ;)

Mezentius - Thanks for the reinforcement that discontinuing the Adsense was the right thing to do. I am still loving PW ads. THey are great!!

Crystal - Being thoughtful of the reader is so true!! Good point.

Clark - In all honestly, I didn’t pay much attention to the articles as I was totally taken back by all the ads. But you are right if the content is good then the ads are probably not much to worry about.

Thanks everyone for all your good comments and stopping by!!
